~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Feb. 12th
The kids learned how to
dismount tractor tires from
rims, check for oil leaks in
seals and how to check
bearings and bushings to see
if they need to be replaced
or shimmed.
Below is a video on the 1st session.
Feb 26th
In this session the kids
removed the front steering
housing to replace the
pedestal shaft bushing. They
replaced the front crank shaft
seal.
The rear axle sleeves were
removed to solve the problem
of excess play in the axles.
This tractor was
found at a auction
with many parts
missing and
cobbled together.
But like all
tractors it has
potential.
As you can see the
tractor was split
to replace the
clutch and the
throughout
bearing.
Many seals and
gaskets were
replaced.
The tractor was
then sandblasted,
primed and painted.
The Gauges,
spark plug wires,
seat cushion,
tires, and lights
were also
replaced.
Al is working on this
John Deere 60 Orchard LP
This is one of 46 produced
with LP
Owned by a long time
customer of
Rosewood Restoration.
This tractor came from
Florida.
Note:
The grille guard, J.D. did
not make a grille guards
for these tractors.
Someone made this to
accommodate to their own
needs.
Much of the sheet metal
is missing and what is left
is in vary poor condition.
This tractor is running
good. Now we are
accessing the damage and
taking inventory of missing
parts.
To get an idea of what this
tractor will look like when
the restoration is
complete, go to the
photo gallery page.
There you will see other
orchard tractors that have
been completed.
Rob's Oliver....
Right now, over at one of
the satellite shops, Bruce is
working on an
Oliver Super 55.
The transmission gear oil
has been leaking onto the
ground and into the the
clutch housing.
Take a look at how the
steering gear etc. stays in
place as the tractor is split.
                      Progress continues on Rob's Oliver
Bruce got the center housing
reassembled with new seals
throughout.
The housing and all of its
internal components were
assembled on the bench and
later attached to the tractor
as a complete unit.
While the tractor was split it
was time to make repairs to
the steering gear.
The oil from the steering
gear has been leaking from
many places for quite
sometime. The accepted fix
for this condition is draining
the gear oil and pumping two
tubes of John Deere corn
head grease into the
housing.
The corn head grease is much
thinner than normal greases,
and will lube the steering
gear mechanism, more than
adequately, without leaking
like the original gear oil.
To drain the oil, Bruce drilled
a hole into the gear case
near the bottom of the fluid
level. A second, lower hole
was added to get all of the
old gear oil out.
Once drained, a 1/8" pipe
plug was installed in the
upper hole and a zerk was
installed into the lower hole.
Two tubes of corn head
grease were pumped into
the gear case through the
zerk. Once the corn head
grease was installed, the
zerk was removed and the
hole plugged.
The tractor was
reassembled, the
transmission oil level was
topped off and Rob's
tractor is ready for delivery.
   Check back to see the next project getting
                      underway soon.
